- This event has passed.
Tuesday, November 15, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm$12 - $15
Join soprano Caroluna and pianist Paul Smith, along with special guest Giovanni Di Morente, lead singer of El Radio Fantastique, as they perform an eclectic mix of lunar-inspired songs and arias during the closest, biggest, brightest, full Supermoon since 1948! This November 2016’s Supermoon will be at its closest point to Earth so far in the 21st century and won’t come this close again until November 25, 2034!
Avant-garde soprano, composer, and video artist, Caroluna is a featured soloist with opera companies and ensembles, including the Musical Art Quintet and the Classical Revolution orchestra. She performed as a soloist at the XX Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy, at San Francisco’s Grace Cathedral, Herbst Theater, The Fillmore, and at many other venues and music festivals around the world. She produced and performed “Poems of Ecstasy,” a visual music program of 20th century French Classical music for the Oakland Lyric Opera, as well as “ROMANTICA” and “French and Italian Love Songs and Arias” at the Fenix in San Rafael. In her current project, “Moon Songs,” Caroluna sings about full-moon nights and other songs that inspired her on these nights.
Joining Caroluna is pianist Paul Smith who received his undergraduate education at the Royal College of Music in London and the Vienna Academy, and his master’s degree from Dominican College. Paul performs as a piano soloist and chamber player with many ensembles, including the Marin Symphony. Smith is the director of several new music ensembles, artistic director for the Contemporary Opera Marin, and has been music director for Mountain Play for 27 years. Paul is the director of Classical music for KWMR Community Radio, as well as founder and artistic director of the Music from Marin Summer Festival. Most recently, he received the Sali Lieberman Award for his contributions to Marin County’s cultural life.
