Nancy Northrup and Hickory Hollar- The best folk, country and blues
- This event has passed.
Sunday, January 20 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm$10 – $12
Hickory Hollar was born when Kevin Patrick Radley, Mel Bearns and Nancy Northrup decided to join forces and play music that speaks to the heart. These three seasoned musicians find common ground in iconic folk, country and blues – the bastions of Americana music – and create original songs imbued with their passion for life and shared experiences.
Nancy’s soaring vocals, deft guitar playing and intimate stage presence bring a definite sparkle and refinement to Hickory Hollar’s at times boisterous and rowdy presentation. She is a masterful storyteller and her original songs evoke longing, joy and remembrance, inviting the listener into spaces and places that are rich with shared experience and sometimes even deja vu. Nancy’s most recent CD “Higher Mountain” was produced by the legendary John Beland. Nancy performs yearly at the Gram Parson’s Festival in Gram’s hometown of Waycross, Georgia.
Kevin lends a style that is unique, honest and original – one that can be best described as down-home Delta Blues back-porch music with a dash of New York City sensibility. His songs easily bridge the gap between joy and heartbreak, and can seamlessly transport the audience to different places and times. Whether on his acoustic guitar, lap steel or harmonica – Kevin plays and sings from the heart, imbuing every note with a deep passion and joie de vivre.
Mel brings a distinctly intuitive and inventive verve to the band. Raised on Mexican traditional folk, rock n’ roll, classical music and jazz, his ear is attuned to possibilities in rhythm and phrasing that lend each song a special dash of something different and out of the ordinary. Adroitly switching from the mandolin to the guitar to the banjo or bouzouki, and singing in a clear high tenor voice, he helps to ensure the Hickory Hollar sound is always as individual and unique as possible.
